dating options for shy minority

Hi,
I'm a shy african american female med student in her mid 20s interested in finding other dating options. I'm too socially ackward to go out to bars or clubs and have mainly resorted to the internet in the past to no avail (namely sketchy craigslist to even match.com). One of my friends suggested speeddating but I havn't found any orgs that seem multicultural. I'm open to dating interracially but it seems that there are a majority of guys that aren't interested in black women (most black men I seem to encounter share the same preferences). It's frustrating because many of my friends that are african american seem to be having the same dating troubles that I wonder if its epidemic.

Perhaps you and your friends can have a bring a dish and a dish party - that is, each woman brings a food or beverage and also a male friend that she isn't interested in in a romantic way.
It's all about exploring options - perhaps someone at the hospital might know a great guy to set you up with, or a relative -spread the word!
I'm sure you're extremely busy but if there are lectures or church events you can attend that might draw a big singles crowd.
Put out a lot of feelers and hopefully a few will come home to roost soon
