Does souvenir indicate what he wants?

A guys been interested in me. I wasn't interested at first. We're talking. And he's been hinting all year that he's interested. Now, that I'm interested, I don't know if he's lost interest in me because I took so long to respond. He went to mexico this week and won't return for 2 weeks. He said he would bring me back something. I figure that if he no longer has a romantic interest in me and only wants to continue as friends, what he brings back would indicate that. But if he is still interested in a romantic relationship upon his return, what he brings back would indicate this. But then again, I'm not sure. Would a souvenir really indicate what he's thinking? If so, what souvenir could possibly say "friends only," or "possible romance"?

I think you're putting way too much emphasis on a souvenir and its "meaning." That he's bringing you anything shows that in the midst of being on vacation you're thought of. It's the action that counts more than the actual gift. After all, the two of you haven't dated yet so you shouldn't expect anything too personal.
