Don't wanna look like a stalker

Ok this is more a general question than one about a specific guy. I am wondering, when a guy gives you his number exactly what is the protocol for calling? The specific situation is that I called him and it was a horrible connection (cell phone) and he laughed that his cell phone company sucks horribly. We were cut off and I attempted to call him back. I got a recording saying that there was network trouble and my call could not be completed. So I let it go and tried him today during my lunch. I got him but he was at work and asked me to please call him back after 4:30, again not the greatest connection. I called him this evening, as requested, but got the recording. I tried it a couple times and finally got through but it went straight to voice mail. I didn't leave a message and I know my number doesn't show up on caller id. I was telling my gf about it and she laughed that wouldn't I look like a crazy stalker if the calls that weren't going through on my end were still showing up as missed calls on his phone. I was momentarily mortified. I guess what I truly want to know is how to handle a situation with technical difficulties such as these without looking like a psycho?

I don't think you are going to look like a stalker if you call again. Maybe tomorrow after 4:30. If he's in, great! If not, leave a message. Make it lighthearted. He gave you his real number, not the number to a pizza place or something. So obviously, he was hoping you would call. So...no problem. If he was interested enough to pass the number off, he is interested in you. And guys don't really care if someone they are interested in shows enough initiative to get in touch. He'd probably find it flattering! Too many people are so afraid of looking stupid, they simply don't take a chance. Take the chance. Call him again. Leave a message if you don't get him on the first try. I'm sure he will appreciate it. Especially if he doesn't have a number to reach you at.

Good luck!!
