Fate or Master of Our Own Destinies?

Do you believe in things being meant to be and relationships that are supposed to happen will no matter what? Or do you believe that we are the masters of our own destinies and that we can make a relationship work despite fate?

Curious to see what everyone thinks and why!

I believe in a combination. I think it's incumbent on each person to optimize their chances of it happening, if a healthy relationship is something that person wants, but that there is a certain element of fate or chance involved as well.

There are too many people out there (myself included) who do all the right things, make lots of effort, etc, and still don't have a relationship that's right for them. So if effort were all it took, we'd all have those relationships. So to me that makes it clear that there is that elusive element of chance at work, also.

I think it is half and half. There are some things in our lives that we can control and others that we cannot. Iri

I think we have a lot more control over a lot of the mundane things in life than think we do. Of course, no one can control another person, and we certainly don't control life and death. But I think being satisfied in a relationship is more of a choice than pure fate. It's WHO you choose.

I think that fate can present us with opportunities, however, fate is never the reason for results. We always have choice and freewill for what we are going to do to achieve results.

You can make relationships happen, whether they'll last or are the types of ones you want are another story. The relationship that you really want will happen in time. Everyone keeps telling me, I'll meet the man of my dreams one day. Well, I'm 37yo, where is he? lol

Great topic! Fate plays a hand but we have to stack the deck so to speak by being mistresses of our own destinies, making wise choices, loving ourselves, etc.

I think fate places people in our path over the span of our lives but our choices factor in. I think it's basically a balance of both~
