Help with snoring? :-P

Hiya! I wasn't sure where to post a question about snoring, so I thought here might be a good place. Ladies, how do you deal with a mate that snores? I love my boyfriend very much and would really like to fall asleep at night, but he's a cute, slightly hairy, Russian galoot and loud snoring runs in his family. We are currently dealing with ED difficulties and so I think being able to sleep together at night would really help things! Any tried and true methods you have used?

We tried the Breathe-Right strips, but I'm not sure we tried them the correct way. Do they actually work? Thank you for any help!! :-)

Man I used to have this problem too... what I would do is to keep him awake long enough until I fell asleep! LOL Have you tried having him roll on his side or back? Sometimes that minimizes the snoring!

See if he's open to getting tested (sleep study) for sleep apnea. Apnea is hard on the heart, and actually is thought to cause all kinds of issues, including ED.

How old is your galoot? Does he smoke?

Thank you for your responses! I'm not sure that he would be open quite yet to being studied for sleep apnea -- he would like to try the non-invasive methods first, I think, and see if any of those work. We are young (he's only 24), and he doesn't smoke, but he does have a bit of extra weight. Is this information any help?

Additional weight can add to lack of air flow. If he loses a few pounds, it may help. But hard to tell without a doctor's input!

Yeap, absolutely. Sleep apnea is common in those who are overweight. Does he have a lot of weight around his face, neck and shoulders?

If so, get that boy on a diet!! It can really help with a certain type of apnea. Then, you can have peaceful dreams.

He's really only slightly overweight (like college boy spare tire overweight!) and most of it is in his tummy. However, I do agree that losing some weight will help! He's already going back to the gym and (hopefully) watching what he eats. Other than that, any short-term suggestions to give me some peace in the meantime? Thank you! :-)

No really good suggestions. The operation to decrease snoring is pretty much not a cure-all, although it works in some people.

I still recommend the sleep study, when you guys have good insurance. It might save his life since apnea is very hard on the heart. It can come from all sorts of causes (weight, age, smoking, drinking alcohol) but it's also inherited. And it can be treated.

Roll him over for now. Good luck!!
