How do you start dating?

It has been 10 years since my ex and I have divorced. I have been on 1 blind date, and 1 gone horribly bad date in that time. Can someone please let me know, how one meets men. I have a nine year old daughter, and really don't want to go to bars, or clubs to meet anyone. Where do I go, or what do I do? Really need help on this one.
Thanks!

I do the online dating thing. It's worked out well so far. I've met a few people in real life and so far, one has potential. I've also made a friend with a guy - he was interested in me but I'm just not attracted to him.

Some don't like it since there are a lot of weird people out there, but guess what? There are a lot of weird people in real life too! No matter how you go about it, you have to play the odds - talk to as many people as you can and go meet (in public) the normal ones.

Also, let all of your friends know that your single, available, and looking to date. Trust me - people LOOOVE to set up single people.

Good luck!

I would recommend online dating as well.

Just so you know, there's a "Single Mothers and Dating" board here in Ivillage, as well as an "Online Dating" board, so you may want to add those to the list of those you visit and post on.

I would say it also depends in which country you live. I lived in Russia for years and then in Italy and met only wierdos or sex-onlys. I actually began to hate Italians after a year of this although I met perfectly normal (all taken of course) ones in real life. The problem of leaving it to chance is that either all the men are taken or else don't just want to go up to a woman and ask her out. I actually recommend using chat rather than online dating sites since this is more casual and the agenda is not set out so less pressure etc and erm....don't do it in Italy! :))
