How to initiate a date?

Hi. I have been divorced now for almost 7 years. I recently ran into an old high school boyfriend, actually I think we "dated" for about a week in high school. Anyway, I know that he is going through a divorce, if not already divorced. He lives not to far from me and his wife, I guess, left him for another man. Not that it matters. My question is, I am kind of interested in asking him out. We do have some things in common and I thought if he wanted to go to the movies or dinner sometime. Anyway. How do I call him and ask him and what if his divorce isn't final yet. Any suggestions? We are both late 30's, so it's not like we are in our early 20's and have TONS of available partners out there. Please respond and thank you for your advice in advance.

2 Suggestions from Pianoguy:

1. If you (and your one-night date) have a mutual friend....have her (or him) find out if the man you're interested in IS DIVORCED? Don't make a play for him until that deed is done!

2. If you know for sure that the man you're interested in IS SINGLE...why not ask him out for coffee or perhaps lunch? But NO late night dinner dates or 'aftertrips' to your house or his!

Good Luck!
