i was the rebound

i was in a short but sweet relationship with a man that i thought would finally restore my faith in the elusive "prince charming". Everything was amazingly romantic and i thought wonderful. Then he suddenly decided to break it off after avoiding me for a week and a half. He used the "it's not you, it's me" line and shrugged it off as really bad timing for him. We told each other that we would remain friends. I went for it determined not to show him that I was hurt.
4 months later,we still hadn't talked since the break up and i was being a moron and decided to look him up on an online "friend network." I noticed in his journal that he was talking about a former flame that he has not been able to get over and cannot see himself with anyone else but her. He called her the woman of his dreams. He said that he felt he had made a grave mistake but he couldn't do anything about it anymore. This was posted a mere month after we stopped seeing each other. At first I happily thought that he may be talking about me, but the puzzle pieces didn't fit because he had made, to my knowledge, no attempt to communicate with me. Plus, we had only seen each other for a month so to call me the woman of his dreams may be too much.
Could this former flame be the real reason why he decided to break up with me. I don't know but this is the excuse that i'm giving myself to help me get over him. Is it possible he was trying to get over her with me?
