Two questions actually.

1. If you were to pickup something small for your guy, what would you get?

2. For the same amount of money, what small gift would you like your man to get for you?

Hmmmm....my guy mentioned in passing one day that he'd like to get a certain CD, so I bought him that CD as a gift for doing well in his exams.

I also bought him a little bonsai tree as a housewarming gift when he moved. Slightly more expensive, but way cool.

I'd like either of those things. I'd probably prefer the tree though, because I'm fussy with music. Actually, I told him just to write me a poem or something when he asked what I wanted for my b'day.

In all honesty, I'd rather someone *do* something for me than buy me something. Sometimes the sentiment is just that little bit greater.

Now that is an excellent comment.

"It's the thought that counts"

So it's always better to do something nice instead of buying something.

I should have checked with you before posting!

It is the thought that counts....but make the thought count.

My guy rides a motorbike, so it's not like he can bring me bunches of flowers when he visits. The one time he did bring me a rose, he had the florist cut the stem so he could put it in his bike case, and she was horrified, coz who ever cuts long stemmed roses in half? LOL

He's said a couple of times to me, "I really do think of buying you flowers". Knowing that he does think about it, even though it's nowhere near as nice as receiving, is also nice in a way.

Mind you, I've pointed out to him online florists that deliver, so he knows the 'can't carry them' line won't last forever. LOL

What'd you do/buy anyway?

But you didn't tell me what you would buy for him.

As it stands, he's behind in the gift-giving stakes. LOL but he's taking me to dinner tomorrow night, so that makes up for it. ;-)

I've previously bought him cds, a bonsai tree, flowers....um...oh we grocery shop for each other too if we're out and think the other might need something. Like I said, it's the thought...

We're only early days into the relationship, so gift giving hasn't really been warranted at this stage, particularly significant gifts, so we just do pretty basic stuff to show where our feet are at.

I always think that gifts should be very individualized.

I had a glass paperweight engraved with "always" in binary code for a fellow computer geek/ more than friend. He really loved it.

I like anything that says "I was really thinking of you when I got this." My last boyfriend was British. He took me to London for my birthday, but the trip had to wait two months before we could actualy go, so he made a cute little England starter kit to give my on my actual birthday. He printed a t-shirt with upside down translation of common American slang I use with the appropriate English slang so I could look down and read it. It was really funny. It screamed: thinking of you.

I think you've hit it on the head. The binary paperweight is very individualized, so that means you were really thinking of the person when you decided on it.
