Instructor - Student Dating

I am a current doctoral student and have become romantically interested in my instructor, who works in my field and travels in the same circles that I do. We are both mid-40's professionals, working within the same field and feel relaxed socializing and devoting more time together. He is my instructor for only one class, though he sits as faculty within a different department in the university. What is the protocol or guidelines for these type of relationships? I don't want to adversely impact his standing at the university - though I don't want to stop seeing him. It's rare that I find someone so engaging, similiar and fun to be with. In our field, I am the one who might be considered in a more powerful position - so I don't think the issue of 'instructor over student' would ever come up.

I'd love and need some feedback.

Find out about the university's professor-student dating policy. Even if he's just your professor in one class he could jeopardize his career. Perhaps, you both can pick up where you left off AFTER you receive your Ph.D.
