So where have all of you met your most recent date, SO, BF/GF, etc?

How did it happen? What did they say?

A common comment I've heard is a lot of women will at least say they don't like going out with guys they meet as total strangers(ie. bars, mall, etc.), yet I look around and I see it happen all the time. Just for practice for the last month or so, i've been going out by myself to the mall or the store or just walking around downtown at lunch(dressed up at work, so I am looking good while doing this) just to get more comfortable saying 'hi' to women with a smile or a wink. In the span of about a month, I still have not experienced 1 person who has stopped and said Hi back in such a way that invites more conversation..what gives?

I met my serious relationships (two engagements, no marriages) in the following ways:

at work

through friends - i.e. we all went out one night

set up by mutual friend who was my classmate and his colleague (current on again off again long term "bf" - we are not exclusive right now)

personal ad (pre internet in the 1980's)

at a sweet sixteen party (yes I was 15!)

at a shivah call for his father who had just died (a vist after someone dies) - I was already close with his younger brother, we slowly developed a friendship over a 1.5 year period and started dating when he stopped a long term work project requiring him to be out of town - he asked me out on sort of a non date since we were friends but it was followed by a real date.

I have been approached at parties, events, a bar, all sorts of places and I think all of that is fine but I've never had a serious relationship develop out of it.
