I have a friend at work, we have lots in common, we get along great, and lately we've been flirting... or at least that's how it seems to me. He's always complimenting me and noticing things, more than most of the guys I've dated have. He's very sweet, and recently single ( couple of months) and we always talk about getting together and stuff we'd like to do over the summer... go camping, horseback riding, etc. Ok so the issue is that I'm 27... and he's 47. Which sort of freaks me out. I can see it working out pretty well with us but he's only 10yrs younger than my mom... Can it work with that huge an age gap? His last g/f was my age so he obviously doesn't have a problem with it, but I'm on the fence about whether I am or not, or if its just how other people would react that is bothering me. Anyone have any ideas, suggestions?

dixibella...

Pianoguy HATES age comparisons. If there's real chemistry between a man and a woman, age should NEVER be a factor! Unfortunately, some members of our society doesn't see things the way PG does!

It's really comes down to how self-conscious the couple that likes each other happens to be?

If the 2 of you honestly feel you can be happy together regardless of what others might think or say---GO FOR IT! If the opinions of others carry more weight than your personal happiness, you're better off finding someone closer to your own age!

So ask yourself HONESTLY...which of these 2 options is more important? Come up with an honest answer and you'll know whether to continue things...or end them?

GOOD LUCK!

Hey DixiBella:

I too am in a May-December relationship. I am 27 and my DF is 38. Age has never been an issue for us and I seriously never considerred it being a problem as he looks much younger than his age, so initially I thought he was about my age. Anyway, I reccommend you come over to the May-December board. It's the best and everyone there is v. nice and helpful and can probably answer lots of questions you may have.

Hi,

If the chemistry is right, it doesn't matter what the difference is (age, race, physical attributes). As long as both of you're adults it's ok. Now for the same 20 yr age gap but if you were 17 and he 37, that would be a problem.
