Question about BF's Health Benefits

Hey all! I'm back again and I need help with my BF but it's not about his birthday this time.

My BF and I live together and my BF is planning on adding me to his health, dental, and vision insurance at his job as a Domestic Partner. Of course this will cause an increase in his weekly contributions to the plan but BF is A-OK with that and is even willing to foot the entire bill!

So I looked through the benefits brochure last night and read this section about Survivors Benefits for Domestic Partners. Basically, this benefit will pay a percentage of BF's monthly salary to me in the event my BF passes away. :-(

Well, I mentioned this benefit to BF and asked him whether he would consider adding this to his coverage. First my BF tried to change the subject, then he stated that he didn't want to talk about this especially since his dad just passed away last month (my BF is named after his dad just so you know). Anyway, BF said he'll think about it. Keep in mind that he must make his decision by tomorrow (Friday).

I honestly don't know what to think or how to feel right now as my initial reaction tells me that he doesn't want to add Survivors Benefits to his coverage to protect me. This concerns me because BF and I are talking about marriage . . . .

What's your take on my BF's behavior?

I understand his not wanting to think about it in light of his father's recent death.

Thanks you for your reply. Actually, I've decided not to push the issue here and let this thing go. Not only is the timing wrong but we're not legally married so he can honestly do whatever he wants to do with his benefits.

In any event, BF called me right after I posted my original message and asked for my SSN to sign me up for his benefits. He also told me that he elected Survivor's benefits AND he added me as a beneficiary on his 401K plan. BF told me all these things without me bringing up the issue first. . . .

Wow, he really does care for me . . . .
