so. i was dating this guy for 4 months when one day we both just decided it really wasn't going anywhere. we talked it out and decided we'd stay friends. you know this never happens, so i told myself i need to move on. the very next morning, he sent me a text message. it was a quote about compassion. i asked him the meaning of it and why he sent it to me. never gave me an explanation. well, a couple of days passed and we talked. couple more days passed, we talked again. well. last night we talked for a bit and then today, in the afternoon, he sent me another text, this one another quote. now, i don't understand the meaning of the quote or why he would send it. the quote says: "what lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters compared with what lies within us". it's from emerson. now. i find it odd that we still continue to talk. we both expressed that we liked each other but it wasn't going anywhere. now. why would we continue to talk both on the phone and through text? i have no idea. i figured we were done dating, on with the next person. right? can someone please help me out. and help me figure out what that quote means!!
thanks!!!!!

"what lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters compared with what lies within us".

The events of the past and the events of the future are small compared to the essence of the person. What happened to you is of little importance compared to who you are inside.

As far as why this guy is continuing to contact you, you'll have to ask him why he is texting you and calling you. Some guys like to chase what and who they dont have. Maybe he wasn't being honest with you during your talk. Only he knows for sure. If you can get him to open up and be honest, then maybe you'll know for sure. But, if you can't and he prevents you from meeting a new guy then you might want to cut your communication with him.
