Should I contact him?

Short and sweet:

I met a guy on Tuesday (March 27th). He asked me out, he called me Wednesday night, and Thursday night, and we planned out date for Saturday night. When I talked to him on Saturday (March 31st), he cancelled, b/c his brother died the day before (And no, it wasn't a brush off, it was in the newspaper, and I know a friend of his). He said that he still wanted to go out with me, when things settled down. The funeral was last Tuesday (April 3rd). So here it is, 7 days since the funeral, and I was thinking about sending him a short little text tomorrow, just something like, "Just checking on you. Hope you're doing OK."

Do you think that's appropriate, or should I wait longer, or just wait to see if he contacts me?

I say give it another week before you fire off the "how you doin?" message, and then take his lead as far as the dating thing is concerned. But that's me. Let's see what everyone else says...

You can do what you were thinking or even pay him a visit while he is grieving.

Another week? You think so? I thought it was fine now.

I think it's fine as long as you make it out that you are just thinking of him and his family at this sad time and not that you are waiting for your date, etc. Maybe you can do something nice for him and bring him some cookies, or send him a card.

I think sending a quick note just saying that you're checking in to see how he is doing is fine at this point.

I think that sounds fine and he'll probably appreciate the concern, whether he'll be up for a date per se is another story
