Sparks and or Chemistry?

After dating this guy for 3 months...or trying to anyway...we were starting out as a long distance to begin with....(only a couple of hours) he tells me the other day....he's so attracted to me...loves everything about me...wants to see me all the time....says we have great conversations and always a good time together.....when we're together he's ALWAYS very affectionate....and he says he thinks we have great chemistry...BUT he says...the desire/spark isn't strong enough for him to want to try to do a LDR....even though he says he thinks he may have not given it a fair try....
What's the difference between sparks and chemistry? I thought in order to have one you had to have the other....Can you be affectionate towards someone without a spark? I'm just a little confused about this...and can this just be a cover up sort of an easy way out instead of trying to do a LDR....I know I don't always have a spark the first time I meet someone...but as I get to know someone sparks develop....is that normal? Or is it more normal to have sparks right off the bat....
Just looking for a little insite here...so I don't go around in circles thinking about this....
Thanks for reading...and thanks in advance for your replies... :)
