What does a quick kiss on the lips mean?

I've had two dates in the past two weeks with someone I've known for the past 7 years. I haven't seen him for 5 of those years but we've kept in touch. I've liked him more than a friend since I've known him, and I think he is showing me interest beyond friendship. So after our last date, he gave me a hug, smiled at me and then kissed me quickly on the lips. I was surprised because he tends to be the shy type. Was he trying to see how I'd react? Trying to be nice? Missed my forehead? WHAT?!?! I would have pulled him close and given him a deeper "real" kiss, but by the time I stopped second guessing myself--did I have funky breath?--he was out the door.

No, he was definately too shy to give you a real kiss. But he felt he had to do "something". That explains why he flew out the door. Have a few more dates with him and he will get past his shyness, especially if you initiate the next kiss.

Not really sure what he was doing, but it sounds to me, like the ball's in your court. Next time you two go out, be a little more flirty...put yourself out there. Not out there, in a sleazy way, but fun & flirtacious. At the end of the night, take the bull by the horns and kiss him. If you've liked this guy for so long, I say just dive in and see what happens. You've been friends for how long???? For all you know, he's walking on egg-shells because he's nervous and afraid of how you might react....show him it's ok!
