Just curious as to what everyone's definition of 'dating' is. Do you consider 'dating' as automatic exclusitivity?

To me, "dating" is going out with someone with the intent of possibly forming a romantic relationship. No, dating doesn't autmatically mean exclusivity.

To me dating means that you are basically meeting and *interviewing* someone for a possible future together. No it does not mean autonomy. It means that you should be testing out the waters to see which fish is the best for you.

To me dating is two people going out in a planned fashion to enjoy each other's friendship, company and companionship. It provides time and place to get to know one another. It is not the same as hanging out and hooking up.

Dating does not mean exclusivity or committment. Dating is about today. Different people will also want different results from dating. Some may date with a desired result of finding someone with which to build a committed long term relationship. Others may date for the fun and enjoyment of the moment.

It is important to understand the person, their agenda and their desired results from dating without any assumptions.

Dating is just hanging out. No expectation of exclusivity unless discussed. In my world, if you're having sex that means automatic exclusivity - but not everyone agrees with that.

If you want exclusivity, it needs a discussion.
