OK, so now I'm tempted to "straignten him out.

Did this lend to the confusion?

"I would love to share some of that camping time for you if that works out."

Now, what in tarnation does that mean? Not that I expect you to ask. I thought your e-mail to him was way past nice and polite, but I don't disagree about the high road. I'd always vote for coming out smelling like a fleur.

Er, 20 (TWENTY!) years he coasted on that *sharing in the early stages" philosophy? Whew, you can consider yourself lucky, honey!

Ya know, I'm thinking you can be more general with the "why" part of your message...perhaps you can just say "...I feel we aren't a good fit..."

He may try to argue with you, and he'll probably assume it's because of the money, even though that's really only a part of it.

Here is my short version - the one I'll send...I think I got a little dig in there.

I dated a guy who lost his job while we were dating. On top of that he had alimony and child support to pay. Our deal was, if he did the asking, he paid. If it was a special occasion (the day I found my job was saved), he paid. If we were just hanging out, we split the bill. If I was having a good week financially, I picked up the tab. This was all while he was out of work. So if HE could do this, Mr. Social Security/I don't want to touch my assets can pony up, too. He would NEVER have asked me to pay for something that HE asked me to do. Yeesh, what a cheapskate your guy is.

Absolutely---not to mention the sucky communication.

So, i sent him an e-mail...a new combination of the short and sweet and the longer set him straight.
