The "first kiss"

Alright. I haven't been dating since I was 19 and I had NO trouble getting that 1st kiss then! With all the hormonal young teenage boys around and all that! Well, now I'm 26 and having a good time w/ someone. Granted we're both coming from very complicated places in our lives right now, but I seriously felt the "vibe" when we parted ways on Saturday.

So ladies - is the "rule" to still wait on the GUY to make the first move in that department?

Since my particular situation is complicated, I'm not rushing anything and I think I'll let him make the first move.

I got a TON of compliments (including from him) all night on my outfit! ;) I can't wait! Now I have to get a dress altered so I can wear it to another show!

Guys confuse me!

So here's the break down... Friday night we did dinner w/ his friends, the show, and then coffee, and then Kareoke - I didn't get home until like 2am. The next day I SLEPT IN, did dinner w/ my folks and a mutual friend of me and C's. Then John and I went kareoking. Had a great time. C couldn't come, but we had texted back and forth throughout the evening. Then something funny happened -
I had my back to the lounge's door, and John was sitting across from me. He asks if C really is the stand up guy he seems and I go on about how I don't have any dirt on him, that I really like him, etc... and then I see something out of the corner of my eye. C had snuck in and sat right behind me! He got a huge hug and we had a good time. :)

Sunday we didn't hook up (though we were supposed to, plans changed).

Monday I went up to his place to hang out, help w/ some furniture moving, etc. We went out to get desert (ice cream). His roommate was in attendence the whole time except for when we went out for the ice cream. When we got in the car, he said there was a song I HAD to hear - made a big deal about it, etc. Here are the lyrics:

"Happy Man"
Merely by chance
Very unsuspecting
You caught my heart
Unprotecting me
Now Ive fallen in love with you

Just when I thought
I was free and easy
You came along to me
Soft and breezy
Now Ive fallen in love with you
Woo hoo
Ive fallen in love with you

And for the first time in my life
I know what its like to be a happy man
Happy man
And for the first time in my life
Youve given me something I cant understand
Being a happy man

Be with me now
Love me forever
Leaving you lady
Is something that Id never do
Ive fallen in love with you

All of my life it seems I have waited
Now I can say all these words I have stated are true
Ive fallen in love with you
Woo hoo
Fallen in love with you woo hoo
- By Chicago
I wasn't sure if I should be reading into it or not, so I just commented on the great beat and sound of it. He brought up several times how he loved the lyrics.

Should I be reading into this?!
Guys confuse me!

I think that you responded to him perfectly (and I really think it's a bit *soon* to be professing *love*... but that's just me).

Read what you want.... but keep your eyes open and proceed slowly.

I happen to agree w/ you. We're moving VERY slowly, which is just right, since both of us are coming from somewhat complicated places right now.

There are times I want to say "Aren't you tired? You've been running around my brain all day." ;)

Teyar and WildLucky:

Let me speak to this from the other side. Us guys dont get you girls very well, either.

The charm of the "mating dance" (broadly speaking here of course) is that neither of us really does "get" the other; each is trying to understand and hoping we are making ourselves understood.

The same questions in your head about "the kiss" --and obviously bunches of other not-unrelated stuff--- are most likely in his head too. And the same conflict of hope and excitement on the one hand and fear of saying the wrong thing or being overexposed and being hurt on the other are shared by male and female alike, at least as I experience it.

And if you ask me (and I share WildLucky's sense that this is a bit quick here) the "song" thing does send a message. If it came from me, it would be a SERIOUS attempt at communicating a message I felt I was a bit too insecure to communicate any other way. Don't think you're "reading" in there, especially if he mentioned the lyrics more than once!

Just an uneducated opinion from one who struggles mightily on the other side of the great gender divide.

Songs, their lyrics (who wrote them and why) have always been an interest of mine.... so if someone mentions, to me, that they like a particular song, I usually ask if it's because of the lyrics, the melody... WHY do they like it, because there are songs that I like because of their "rompy melody", but perhaps not the lyrics... sometimes I love the lyrics, but hate the melody.

Your comments along this line are very interesting to me. I am, among other things (including a "day job" that actually pays the bills!!), a professional musician and an occasional songwriter so it has personal application to me. Never thought that any of my listeners would ever be so thoughtful about my lyrics!!

Oh man... most of the songs that I really love, I love because of the lyrics... and investigating who wrote them.
