I'm tired of having to "play by the rules" and doing the "waiting game".

I don't know that I would really call this a game.
But maybe it's just too early for him to be so attached that he'd need to talk to you so often. Personally, I'm not someone who likes talking by phone and I think it would take me some time before I feel the need to hear often from the guy. My ex didn't like talking by phone either, we were in a long-distance relationship and would talk maybe 2-3 times per wee and even then, he seemed to find it often and was saying that it was work :).
If I were you, I would just go with the flow and start meeting other guys, so that I'm less concentrated on him. I don't know but if you need lots of attention, maybe a guy who's independent and works a lot might not be a good match for you ?
I think it's because it's a new situation and you're not entirely sure where you stand that it makes it seem like a week is a long time.
Yea,
If you want someone who talks to you and wants to see you more, don't be afraid to hold out for that. What is right for some people isn't always right for everyone.
Well frankly, now, I just don't care.
He just does not seem to be showing the signs that he is really into you. I think you are doing the right thing by opening up your prospects to other guys and not waiting on him.
