I don't post on this board often but read it regularly. Was reading about your date in another thread and hoping to see one of your own on the subject.

Now..what you've done

Dang it!

I'm amazed at the number of people (both men and women) who bring up ex's on a first date. I make it a policy to never do that, plus I don't even say the word "boyfriend" "marriage" "ex-husband" or "commitment." ;-) Now, she started it, so it's OK that you went there too. And sometimes, I think it really can be OK to talk about it, but I like to play it safe.

Do you think you might ask her out again, or are you convinced she isn't over her ex? I wouldn't blame you if you didn't--I would be turned off by a guy pining over an ex.

I guess now you'll have to try the dreaded online dating....

H*** and damnation.

Are you into her enough to try ONE last time? Maybe suggest another date and see if that one goes better?

Also, and this is only a suggestion, and my personal point of view: 3 hours in an art museum for a first date without a drop of alcohol in your blood stream would not be my idea of

Oh it's so disappointing when things don't work out. At least most of the date was fun. When I was doing OLD there were numerous 1st dates that didn't work out & in order not to get too depressed about it, at least I would think--hey I got out of the house for the night & got to eat a good dinner that I didn't have to cook (and most of the time the guy would pay, which was great since then I didn't have that much money). So when is your next plane trip?

Musiclover,

I just read your comment about meeting a guy in the bookstore.

I am probably more like the situation you're in--my youngest is 14 so even if I could have more kids (kind of unlikely at 52) no way would I want to start over. I wouldn't even want to be seriously involved w/ a guy who has young kids. I already did the stepchild thing which was difficult enough. Right now I'm just looking for some nice dates, not really w/ the idea of getting serious--that's hard enough to find.

I joined a meetup group that involves going out to dinner and for the 2 evening events that I went to, there were practically all women, even though one of the leaders of the group is a man. I asked my boss, who is a 50 yr old never married guy, why that is & he said that men really don't like to socialize the way women do. Then I was talking to the women about it at the last dinner and some of them said that men don't like to just talk the way women do. I mean I had really not known these women before but we had no trouble making conversation. Maybe some men feel more comfortable doing some activity, but I would say that if there is a similar kind of group near you, I bet there would be so many women there. Now my internet "friend" who does a lot of outdoor activities like cycling & kayaking meets a lot of guys at those kind of clubs, but I am not an athletic person, although I love to watch sports. I have to find a group where people like to just go & watch football!
