I think you missed a good opportunity while you were w/ the group to try to engage her in conversation by herself--how have you been, just small talk, etc. Then maybe you would have gotten a better idea whether it seemed she was interested in you or just being nice. Since you have known her for so long, I don't see any harm in asking her to lunch or doing something alone together. After all, friends can do that kind of thing. Then in the course of the conversation, you could get a better idea of what's going on w/ her, does she have a BF, etc. If she seems like she doesn't want to go out alone w/ you, then you'll know, but I think the best and long lasting relationships seem to work when people start out as friends.
