Crush on a Supervisor!

I am a student in a certain professional degree. I was assigned to work in a certain department during my first week of my 3rd year. And I met one guy who was so helpful. He just graduated and got his degree, only 2 years ahead of me. He was asking me how he could help me, what he could do to make my time there more fun because he felt it was his job to help students since he was just one a few months ago. He would always get really happy when he saw me walking by, ask me if I wanted something to eat since he was going to grab food, then smile again. I just got the vibe that he was really into me....really going out of his way to teach me.
so I was only assigned to that area for a week, but really enjoyed my time there, so I did something dumb and sent an email: telling him thanks, and asking him for career advice, and if I could shadow him when he's working just to get a better sense if I want to go into the same career field as he is in.
was this desperate of me? Or does it sound strictly professional? I tried to make it really casual, so in case he "WAS" just being really nice I won't seem like a spaz.....
I just need someone to make me feel better.....

You haven't indicated if your 'tutor' has provided an email response or not?
HOWEVER....
PG would like you to seriously ask yourself: "Is my passion (for this gentleman) going to completely screw-up my profession?" YOU are just getting your feet wet...and the impressions you're creating (not only with the man you're interested in...but also with your co-workers) could determine how SUCCESSFUL YOU'LL BE IN THE FIELD YOU'VE CHOSEN.
Respond like a professional....FIRST! If the "personal part" is supposed to happen...let human nature help you in 'her own sweet way!'
