Need help with flirting co-worker

Hello everyone, I'm a little confused over a situation at work and I would love it if you guys could help me understand what the heck is going on. LOL. There is a co-worker of mine who (to me) is the hottest thing under the sun and absolutely makes me swoon. He has been flirting with me (not outright but in little ways) and once I figured out what he was doing, I began to flirt back. Today we had a happy hour office party and he really started flirting a lot b/c I was at my desk alone and there weren't too many people around- they were all at the party. Basically, the whole thing was driving me crazy so I wrote him a note (because in our office you can't talk anywhere someone will hear) and told him that he's a wonderful guy and I asked him if he was flirting with me, because if he wasn't I would leave him alone and just accept the fact that he was a nice guy. He was speechless when he read the note, and he says "the flirting is second nature b/c you're a very attractive girl, but the thing is we work together..." But he didn't say that he wasn't interested in me, or that he would stop flirting (he still is), but we work together? I'm confused... People who work together date all the time... should I give it more time? Somebody please tell me what this means!!! Thanks!

It's called tact. He has no intentions of dating you and was letting you down gently.
