Is there such a thing as unconditional love?
Yes, it exists in most parent/child relationships.
However, I don't have unconditional love for my partner. If he treated me badly enough, for long enough - I would stop loving him.
I totally agree with the others. Its only a love that exists with your children. Im living an example of it right now!!
Long story short, my stbx of 21 years left me and the 4 kids, 18 months ago, for another woman who was a friend of mine. They split, he came to me, I said no way!! He moved on to another woman lived with her for months. They broke up 3 weeks ago, so hes home with Mom and Dad again. I recieved my divorce papers on Tuesday afternoon this week. On Wednesday afternoon he called and asked me to throw them out and make this work!!! Of course he doesnt love me anymore, told me that himself, but he thinks maybe he may again someday. He decided we should do this for the kids and financial reasons!! Well I said NO!!!!!!
So you see when someone treats you bad, like he treated me for the last few years of our marriage, and through the seperation, there in no unconditional love!! I can never get past the lies, and I just dont love him anymore.
You will probably always have unconditional love for your own flesh and blood, no matter how devious they can be at times.
My love for my SO is largely unconditional (sometimes I don't like you, but I'll always love you), with of course, those few unforgivable exceptions.
