It means the person has been logged into their account within the last 6 days. It's a nice indicator of people who are regular users. If you see someone active within the last 14 months, it's a strong indicator they've lost interest, found someone, or just forgot about having the account.
I think match has changed their system so that the longest ago it shows someone active is "over 3 weeks ago". Even people who haven't been on for months show up as this.
To the OP...it means that they logged in more than 3 days ago but less than a week. However, I've heard that these are not always completely accurate (people on this board have done tests of their own active status and had that be the case).
Yeah, that doesn't make any sense. Must be one of the infamous match glitches other posters have noticed with respect to the "active within" time frames. The only way it would make sense is if you checked his profile yesterday at, say, 10 AM, he got online at 11 AM, and you checked him today at noon, or later...i.e., more than 24 hours after he was on.
The guy is actually in Alaska right now, so he isn't online for another week. He wrote all of this in an email to me. But I have been watching his activity and it jumped from 6 days to three. I bet it is just a screw up.
This is just one reason why I prefer NOT to check someone's profile after I've contacted them. I might do it once or twice but I try not to after we've gone on a few dates. I just find it really heartbreaking to see a guy I really like active every day and not writing to me ... on the other hand, not checking can lead to surprises. I've been seeing someone for over two months. I purposely didn't look at his profile after our third or fourth date because I just didn't want to know. When I finally checked, out of curiosity, I was happy to see he had not been on in over two months. (Now that doesn't mean he can't be meeting women offline!)
So in general, due to glitches and the stress it can create, I prefer to just not check.
Actually that is how he emailed me the first time. He explained in the email that he had managed to escape for a minute to check his email (he is doing some philanthropic work up there) and that he would try again soon. However, he said he was interested in getting to know me. So who knows? I like the idea of not checking profile's after the date, but then again every guy I have met up with takes his profile down just after our meet. But as an update, the guy I have been meeting with is turning out to be GREAT! Last night he was supposed to be my date to a graduation party, when he got to my apartment I was running late (not even dressed yet) and not in the mood to go. He had gotten dressed for the occasion and everything. We sat and grabbed a beer and I changed my mind all together about going. Most guys might not like this, he was quick on his feet. Totally ok with it, and suggested we grab dinner and hang out together. We did and I had a blast doing nothing at all!!
