Alternate Email Addresses

A number of guys I contact/who contact me, offer their personal email addresses right away. I've been unable to establish an anonymous email account, so sometimes I've given them my regular email. Nothing bad happened but I wonder why they want to do this when we're both paying members. One of them works in law enforcement and I'm certain he'll do a background check - who could resist? I don't have anything to hide, no criminal record or the like, but I do have issues, diagnosed with depression and personality disorders. Of course, my diagnoses keep changing; my current therapist thinks I mainly suffer with PTSD. So I guess what I'm asking is that I know these things would come out eventually but I also don't like the idea of a guy getting the info. and possibly splattering it all over the internet. So maybe I should just stay with the dating site. It's just that nearly ALL of them suggest regular email; the last one wrote "be real people right away" which was kind of catchy, but I still feel kind of in a bind. Any advice would be appreciated.

Personally, I like moving to real email ASAP - I prefer to use my Yahoo mail as I don't like logging on to dating sites during the day and also my Yahoo mail is much easier to access.

I've tried setting-up anonymous email accounts numerous times. Everytime I put a fictitious name, etc., but they still manage to attach my real name to the account. Customer service said it shouldn't do that. They don't know why it's happening either. A lot of the guys give their real names right-away and it really doesn't bother me except for the reasons I mentioned and it seems to be a dating boundary thing. A lot of other people know my real name, phone and address, however, so I don't see that it makes that much difference. Of course, there are "loose cannons" but a person could meet them anywhere. I don't know, maybe I'm rationalizing, just don't know what to do.

When opening up a new email account and it asks for your first and last name...do not give your REAL name. Put something like Just ME, or Me Smith, Jane Doe. Then, put whatever ficticious name you want on the account. When it attachs your "real name" to the account, it will not be your real name after all. Just a thought.

Well, I'm still having a similar problem with my Yahoo account. When I originally set it up, I used my real name. It was before I started doing OLD and I wasn't really

Yeah. That's probably it. I started with my real name as well. Now when I try to change it, I can't. Most sites seem to know it's me before I sign into them. Maybe it has something to do with my filtering systems, firewalls, etc., too.

I move to real email right away because I hate how match tracks emails.

I do, however, have a completely ficticious email address with fake first and last names that I use. I don't use my normal personal email address because it has my real first and lats name in it.

Honestly, all you need to do is open a Yahoo address and put a fake name and address in it. Bingo - they can't find out your real name.
