best OLD sites?

I'm thinking of trying OLD again (dabbled a bit about 3 years ago). Having a little trouble finding the right site though.

I looked at the guys on match.com, and it seems that they are generally too mainstream for me. I also checked out the personals on nerve.com, but I don't really like the heavy emphasis on sex on the site.

I tried eharmony, but the matches they sent me were not at all appealing to me. Maybe the problem with eharmony is that the pool of people is too small...and they don't match you by cultural interests, only personality and some general demographic markers. I haven't checked out lavalife yet, maybe there is some potential there...?

What's YOUR impression of all the different sites? How would you characterize them?

Surely this question has been asked before, but I haven't been able to find a thread on the topic.

Hi Dot,
I have checked around a bit, and I think it may depend on what you are really looking for. I have settled on eharmony and a long, slow road to success, because I am only really interested in long term, exclusive quality relationships. There are not likely to be hundreds of them, because I am picky and so is a quality man.I also don't like the idea of being browsed by everyone. If you have been on eharmony, maybe you can go back and check your settings, especially since you mention cultural interests. You haven't indicated if you are interested in more short term dating, lots of dates, or more exclusive leading to long term. I liked friendfinder(not 'adult' friendfinder), just for getting myself started, but I haven't found my needle in the haystack yet in any case. I also believe, like everything else, you will get what you pay for. 'Free' sites and trials have a lot more riff raff to sort through than paid memberships. Good luck to you.
