Canned Responses

I typically don't like getting canned responses from anyone. They just seem so impersonal. Although I know they are used for testing the water in regards to see if you are interested, I feel that a true email is more personable. I am more likely to respond to a personal email as opposed to canned responses.

However, I have received a "Thanks but No Thanks" canned response approx 10 times. The catch is.... I never sent them a wink, email or anything. Upon further looking, I notice that they are the ones that sent an initial wink/ice breaker. As mentioned earlier, I don't respond to these. However a few weeks later, they send me a "Thanks but no Thanks" additonal canned response.

WTF?

Does this happen to anyone else?

Just curious....

I think someone mentioned that these get sent by certain services when people take you off their favorites or hotlist or similar...

If you're talking about Yahoo, I think I have an explanation.

This has happened to me several times on yahoo. I get a wink from a guy and don't respond, then he sends me a generic "Thanks but I don't think we are a good fit." Okay that's fine. So I sent him a generic "Thanks, but we live too far away," just to verify with him why I didn't respond in the first place. He then sent me back another generic response "Thanks but I don't think we are a good fit." It's strange, don't know if they feel rejected or if it really is a computer thing.

Actually, the system DOES let you delete without sending a canned response, you just hit delete again. But it does make it SEEM like you have to (which you don't).
