How would you feel about a guy who has a picture of his cat in the profile?
Also, what do they mean by "friends first"? I am confused.

I like cats, so I wouldn't think that was an issue, I would think it was kind of strange if it was just a picture of his cat or dog since you are trying to meet him not his pets, but if he's in the picture too I wouldn't think it was strange.

I would imagine friends first means he's not interested in RUSHING right into a romantic relationship.

I have a few thoughts on this, based on my dating experiences.

First of all, a cat is better than a snake!! LOL!! Guys who like animals are cool - but I have noticed that the older ones who have never been married all seem to have pets.... hmmm.....

Okay - seriously - I have found that guys who want to be friends first are afraid of a full blown relationship. They still push the sex but they don't want to be exclusive or serious. There is something in their past that makes them say that. Like they might have felt they went too fast or they got hurt. I have seen this in 2 cases.

A guy who meets you and wants you and is into you IRL is not going to say that or even think about that.

But it could be okay - there are no absolutes. You will have to go in with your eyes open - find out his history.

Good luck!!

Thanks ladies, I am tempted to pass on this one. Something tells me that he is too comfortable in a relationship with his cat :)

"Friends first" is a guy's "out" in case he's not all that attracted to you ... also usually means "I'm going to keep dating a lot of women till I find a perfect one. But since we'll just be 'friends' you can't complain about it."

Add to that: "I want to copy as many ideas from women's profiles into mine so I'm more attractive to them."

I used to have a picture of my cat Marty on my profile before he passed away in January. I don't have a problem with anyone posting pictures of pets unless all their pictures show them with Spot. Perhaps with the exception of a girl and a Boa.... My reasoning is based on a past experience with a gal in college that had a snake. She was an oddball that felt that "Sammy" the snake should be part of the romantic experience.

Hi Judy-

I have to agree with you 100% about the friends first theory.

Talltx, you are funny :) Made me laugh about the girl with her snake :)
I am going to give him a shot. I e-mailed him and asked "do you consider yourself a cautious person?" He said that he is not and he went on how I might be feeling uneasy that he is 36 and haven't been married, etc. I also asked him about how long has it been since his last serious relationship and he said that he considered all his r-ships serious because all of them had potential... I felt a little better so I am going to see what happens next.

Since I have cats & have had some trouble finding guys in the past who either liked or weren't allergic to cats, if he is a cat owner, it's always a bonus to me. Now, if he ONLY had a pic of his cat & not one of himself, that would raise my eyebrows. But a pic of his cat (or even dog) on his profile is actually a bonus for me. I love animal lovers!
