I was going to put this example in response to CB but I didn't want to hijack her thread...

Good points, pm. I would also add, finish with an open ended question, get that conversational ball rolling.

You know what I think makes it especially weak?

Excellent tips. I'd add that mixing in a little confidence with your note helps, too.

For example, here's a section of my current gf's first note to me (she initiated contact!):

"I am hoping to find someone special in a selective way and would love to get an opportunity to know a little more about you.

"If you are curious enough, than reply to this e-mail and you'll not be sorry :)"

How could I resist emailing her back? :) And she's right... I've not been sorry. :)

Good emails make a world of difference. The guy I am dating now , our first couple of emails left something to be desired and I reslly didn't respond because I thought he was being polite! Well, his third email knocked my socks off and he has continued to do that ever since. I, for one, am so happy he sent it, and he is happy he sent it to. He is "into" me and "into" my kids. It is the most amazing thing I have ever witnessed in my life and I appreciate it so much. I am truly humbled by him and his caring and generosity. Even if things end up not working out, I know how it is supposed to be and that what I had pictured in my head was not unacheivable but was right for me and the person that I want to be with..
Best wishes,
J

Hi phoenixmama!

cl-pianoguy thinks all your points are excellent....THUMBS UP!

As you know....it's easier for some people to express themselves than it is for others.
