do you contact people?

I was reading another board and a few guys were saying that women never need to contact guys online because they get enough contacting from guys themselves. Now for me, I did contact two people...and neither of them responded. A bit of a blow to the ego...but whatever, there's been lots i havent responded to either. But due to that...i feel that i dont want to contact anyone anymore...I am sensitive and if it keeps happening i'll really feel like, wow what is wrong with me, that no one is responding to me when ive contacted them first? Am i totally contacting people out of my league? I didnt think so...i will admit one was very attractive, he perhaps gets lots of contacting.

What about you? do you contact many people or do you let them do most of the contacting then if you like them you respond?

On Match, Yahoo Personals and many other sites, it's free to post a profile, to send winks and to RECEIVE e-mail. You just can't RESPOND to e-mails if you're a non-member (and without being able to do that, there's no way to take things any further with someone.) So I can e-mail non-members and slip my home e-mail address into the e-mail and then they can e-mail me back at my home e-mail from their home e-mail. It took me about 6 months to figure this one out. Hopefully I won't be banned from the sites now that I've given away this secret!

Seriously...you didn't realize that not everyone was a subscriber?

Well if you think about it from the business perspective of the OLD sites, they are more likely to make money if they allow non-members to "advertise" themselves in the hopes that a desirable women will respond to them which may persuade him to pay the membership fee in order to write back to her. I've had a couple guys tell me that they actually paid the membership fee in order to be able to write to me, so it works! While that is very flattering to me, it doesn't make up for all the other frustrations surrounding OLD!

They let people post their profiles and photos for free as a way of trying to entice more people to subscribe.

But you're right, on match, you can't even read your emails now without being a subscriber (that's a fairly recent change and one yahoo hopefully won't adopt).

I did not know about Match's new policy that you can't read e-mails unless you are a member! Maybe they implemented that because people like me figured out how to "beat the system." Does it show you that a particular person sent you an e-mail and you just can't view it or does it not register at all? (I'm a paying member so I can see all e-mails that come in.)
