Eharmony update
| Fri, 10-21-2005 - 6:05pm |
Last weekend I posted a message about my use of eharmony, asking if I should close matches that weren't responding to me after several days. At that point, I was communicating with 6 matches. Well, to update you, they started dropping like flies on Monday, closing their communication with me, mostly due to them "pursuing other matches."
I went to the site tonight and closed my communication with the last two men and I've also closed my account altogether. I'm not upset because I have nothing invested (besides the $50 I wasted to join), but it doesn't help your self esteem to have people closing communication with you every time you log into the site.
I hope all of you are having better luck than I am. Have a great weekend!

I like EHarmony and the people I met through there were great guys, just no attraction in most cases. As for the "I'd rather not say" option, I used that many times in the cases when I saw a guy that was just not my type or had some really weird thing going on and there was no choice that matched for the closing.
Sally, what did you mean by <>
Did you mean you were closing them before they got a chance to?

But why take it there? Maybe it was something you said in your profile rather than your looks... I know it's easy to go down that quasimodo route but it could be for other reasons. (And btw--women have egos too! I know mine is HUGE at times. LOL)
I just don't like that particular phrase. "Id rather not say" is so mysterious. There is a selection of like 20 different "reasons"
- I don't feel the chemistry is there
- I don't feel our values match
- Physical difference is too great
Etc.
There is no reason to choose "I'd rather not say"
What I mean is, when they close the match instead of just clicking the continue button, I go back in and close the match on them.
Ah gotcha.
Re the "I'd rather not say" option, my cousin who did OLD for awhile also used that a couple of times when the guy had some really strange things written in the profile. It wasn't about chemistry, it was about not having a really appropriate option. In some ways I'd love to have a free-form text field in there but Lord knows what sort of abuse would happen there...
