"He didn't get out until yesterday morning and met with his lawyer"
This kind of sounds like an episode of the Jerry Springer Show. If you enjoy drama this is the man for you. Myself, I would be running as fast as I can in the opposite direction.
There are far better things than drama with an ex and him getting thrown in jail to "keep things interesting". You think this is entertainment?!?! Wow. Of course none of us want to be in a "boring relationship" but this would be more than most people could bear. TO ME (know this is MY opinion and I'm not judging you for your choices), keeping a relationship exciting and interesting does not involve his wacko ex and her wacko brother getting him thrown in jail for two days.
It is admirable that you are willing to stand by him through this. If you are happy and willing to know that your life will be full of this "exciting entertainment", good for you. I suppose we all have our level of what we can take. It sounds like you have a high threshhold for this and to each their own. I do sincerely wish you luck because I would imagine that you'll have a lot more to deal with from him and his crazy ex.
Most people simply have a level of drama that they are willing to accept. Just as you say that no one should judge YOU for being willing to accept more, you should also not judge them for wanting to accept less. I wouldn't want to deal with this myself but does that make me a bad person? No, it makes me a person who knows what I want and what my limits are. Same as you. Mine are just different. CGUN's are different. Chamey's are different. You yell shame on us for saying what our level of tolerance for crap is because it's different than yours but say that we shouldn't judge you because you're willing to put up with a psycho ex. Judge not lest ye be judged.

Well, it's your choice whether or not to continue seeing him.
"He said he grabbed her arm"
"before he knew it they were fighting"
"the police took him in for assault"
"He didn't get out until yesterday morning and met with his lawyer"

"I don't want to be in a boring relationship where things are so cut and dry and there is not room for entertainment."
Please clarify...you're not saying you're entertained by this, are you?
As for us being judgemental...as I previously mentioned, I have had enough drama in my life and I don't want more.

Like I said, good luck.
