Hello!

Have you met really nice man/woman online and finaly you meet face to face? Has he/she been just like he/she said or just a opposite?

I met this really really nice man few years ago. We did talk online, send e-mails and finally we talked on the phone. He told me that he like sports ad that he has quite nice body and he said that his friends has compare him to Kevin Costner. He did send me his photo but it was so poor. Then suddenly we had chance to meet. I sat in cafe when he came to me. Kevin Costner? Not even close. Quite nice body? Not even close either (maybe he likes sports, but I think that he likes to swatch it on tv...and not do it himself). What was worst part of this.....he REALLY thinks, that he looks like Kevin Costner :) (maybe he has blind friends??)He was nothing what he said he would be (physicly or mentaly)...he wasn't that man I met in online. We didn't met after that....

Protect yourself from these "surprises" by only communicating with people who have clear photos posted (more than one). Assume that any photo which is old, poorly lit or has part of the person obscured -- is that way for a reason. Then at least you won't be surprised.

Even with a good photo these types of "no sparks" meetings happen all the time.

Yeah, I've had a few where they've seen my pics, we've had a webcam conversation where they got to see me in real time, they got to hear my voice on the phone.

"Do you really care about looks?" "No, it's whats on the inside that counts... looks don't matter, looks don't matter, looks don't matter."...

And then you meet face to face

...

Man, amazing how fast that last sentence just disappears.. turns out looks do matter afterall evidently?? :)

But there just has to be that physical attraction there for anything truly meaningful to happen relationship-wise.

This is an expression we have here, I don't know if you have it:

"It pays to look like Adrian Paul"

No matter what they say, no matter how many times they say it,
its simply a fact: It DOES pay to look like Adrian Paul.

Well I'm going to have to disagree. OK, I wouldn't kick Adrian Paul out for eating crackers in bed (LOL)...but, in my OLD experience I found the real "hotties" were full of themselves. As I became a more seasoned dater I found myself skipping over the really great looking guys for someone of more substance.

My current BF is my ideal. I really don't think he'll be givng Mr. Paul any competition, but he sure gets my motor going and he's the sweetest man on the planet.

Hi Annuka,

I call this "Matt Damon in a Brad Pitt suit"; the kind of man who is a legend in his Own Mind! Nothing wrong with self-esteem, but I would never describe myself as looking like any celebrity, as that surely is gonna be pretty hard to live up to!

I think one of my main gripes with OLD is that people put a Lot of tinsel on the ol' Christmas tree...so many I met were Many lbs over what they stated, or they bragged on their gym attendance, because I am a health coach. Then, when I met them, and these were Evident 'untruths' (once a good 60 lbs worth!), it led me to wonder what Else they might lie So easily about.

I do not photograph well (envision Minnie Mouse on prozac), and have been told I am better than my photos, but I had never made that a part of my profile. Also, I am Not hard on folks about their fitness level, it is a choice, to be made by each individual!

Once, in Las Vegas, I sat poolside and listened to a man with the body of a Buddah criticize Every woman that walked by and found fault with them all--Puhleez! I finally Had to say "So, how long have you been fitness editor for GQ, Bud?" :) We cupcakes can be smart-a**es when it is called for--Touche!

Truly,
Cupcake

Looks matter, but not the way some might think.
