Features of a great OLD site
| Sun, 03-19-2006 - 1:38pm |
Ok ladies, help me out here... I'm working on putting something together to help newcomers and to start, I'd like to know what features/benefits a GREAT Online Dating site has that the lacking sites don't have.
Feel free to share whatever options/benefits/features a great site has. (Don't worry about telling me which site is the best in your opinion.. I'll be asking that in a different post soon. :o) )
Thanks for your help!
Kerry

For starters, I think any site that requires you to be a paying member just to be able to READ emails sent to you is NOT a feature of a great OLD site...not pointing any fingers (ahem...match.com)....
Of course, sites like Craig's List and Myspace are free, but then you don't get the detailed profile information and it's easier for the whackos to email you...but I'll take it over a pay site right now.
I enjoy the sites that specify what type of relationship the person is seeking. That helps me narrow it down, because I'm certainly not looking for just "intimate encounters."
Also, the blocking feature of course, and an instant messenger right on the site is nice. The ability to disable that instant messenger is nice also!
Sites that ask a lot of in-depth questions are great, so you get a feel for the person before speaking to them also. Things like: smoking habits, tattoos, and questions that pertain to more than just "whether someone wants children or not" and things like that, so you can get a better feel if that person is what you'd be interested in.
I haven't been a member of an OLD site for long, so I'm not sure what other features are out there, but I am certainly going to follow this thread to see if the one I'm at is not such a good fit for me!

I like the sites that offer you a separate mailbox to send and receive messages. It's nice when you don't have to give out personal information so quickly while chatting with someone initially. I also don't mind having the IM feature available but would like having the option of being able to disable it.
Bad Feature -- I don't like sites that let you know when you have been online or show your status of being "online" while visiting the site. Also don't like when you have viewed someone and they show that to the other party.
