Hi everyone,

My name's Sarah, I live in Massachusetts, and I've been doing online dating dating for over two years. My experience is fairly typical, I met someone on eHarmony in my first 4 months of online dating, and that relationship lasted for 8 months until he moved out of state. I've dated 2 other online guys for 4-6 weeks since then, and I am still good friends with one of them after dating him last summer. Other than that, I have had quite a few first dates with guys who ghost afterwards and communicated with men through email and phone who ghost before the first date gets set up. Sometimes I get discouraged and want to give up online dating but for some reason I just keep on going with it, I know someday I'll find the one who's meant for me!

I have tried all the sites and have had the best luck with Match and eHarmony, Plenty of Fish isn't too bad either (it's free and much better than Craigslist ;) ), in fact I'm meeting up with someone I met there this afternoon. He's coming up here from a neighboring state and we're going to go on a tour of Boston and have dinner afterwards. I'm feeling sooooo nervous.....

Hi everyone! I'm Nikki from Chicago. I've been doing online dating on and off (between relationships) for probably 6 years now. I think I have had really good experiences with OLD, which is why I keep going back!

I first did OLD in college and met a nice guy on my 4th attempt. We dated for 3 years and were almost engaged (I had to break it off because I wasn't ready for that). Once I had recovered from that breakup, I did OLD again and met another great guy on my 4th attempt! We dated for a year and a half but split up when we realized that we just wanted different things from life. Then I really hit it hard last year... between March and July I met 25 guys all using OLD! Of course I had all the standard problems with ghosting, lying, poor hygiene, etc. But, the bright side is that I met my current BF online and we've now been together almost 8 months.

Over the course of my OLD experience I've used a ton of sites; Match, Yahoo, eHarmony, Craig's List, and OK Cupid. Ironically I've had the most luck on OK Cupid, which I definitely didn't expect.

As everyone else has said, there are great guys out there, you've just got to go through the weeding out process to find them. It's worth it though, I think!

I'm Juana from Indianapolis. I've been doing OLD on and off for about 6 years and have had two serious relationships with two of the guys I met. Unfortunately, I've found that a lot of men online are not very faithful. Both guys continued to pursue women online even after our "exclusivity talk". Both traveled far away to meet their online loves and left me heartbroken.

But I'm hopeful that the third time is a charm, so I keep a positive attitude. Right now I'm using Yahoo. I don't like eHarmony's business practices. They are a little on the sleazy side with how they bill you and all the matches they send you right when you subscription is about to expire. I was fixed up with about 2 men a month on there and the day before my membership expired, they billed my credit card for three more months and sent me 9 matches. Not cool.

Experience of OLD so far.

I met one man I found very interesting but he ghosted after 4 dates. I also made one friend that I golf and dance with and enjoy having as a guy friend.

Hi Judy. I am 53, divorced for 4 years and no relationships or much dating since. I a m shy and take a long time to warm up to people so OLD is really an unpleasant stretch for me. I sure wish I could just get to know someone slowly in real life but it just doesn't look like that is going to happen. I too thought that if I just got 'exposed' on the Internet, that I would find lots of wonderful men. Inflated expectations and the experiences of another friend of mine with OLD has turned me off even more.

I am finishing up a 3 month membership with e-harmony. What a dud. Many closed me out and I never even got to the communication stage with anyone. I've already done YP with no luck, although I must say I never contacted anyone. I think that if I were to go online in the future, I would 'hide' myself and do all of the contacting.

Have you found any other way to meet men besides OLD?

One of my friends works at the Running Room and they have a very close group. They go on regular runs together and have other social activities. They recently started a dance group where whoever can make it goes to a dance studio for a class at 7:00 on Saturday evening. Afterwards, the gang goes out for a drink and snack. Very nice group and I noticed that one single guy and woman are now dating outside of the dance class. So there are two ideas: take a running clinic and join a dance class.

Sorry if this was a hijack.

My experience so far has been good. I've met some nice people. The first person I made a connections with was a flake, the next I think was married-he came on like gangbuster-then fizzled out slowly. So these experiences have me a little disillusion with OLD.

Hi,

Andrea from New York. I am 55 years old. I have been doing OLD for only 1 month.

I just left a 13 year relationship with a committment phobic. I want to thank everyone out there for the help and advise on my posts, you have all been wonderful.

My OLD experience also has been a disappointment to me, I also thought that once I was out there on the internet (I look pretty good for my age) and wanting to meet someone 50 - 65 I would be sooooo busy dating but it is not turning out that way. Right now I am on only one dating site, Jdate, the "J" stands for Jewish. It is not that I am religious but my 22 year old son suggested I try that one first. I am going to try Match or e-harmony (some on this post were not too happy with e-harmony) I might just try Match right now.

I am hoping to meet that one special person that thinks I am special too.

Thanks again for all your advise.

Andrea
