First Date Tomorrow and I'm Nervous

Hello again everyone,

I have been on about 8 meets in almost three years so I'm not overly prolific in the OLD world. Of the dates I've had, I've made one fairly good friend and other than that the only one I found interesting cancelled out on our second date.

I have a lunch meet tomorrow and he seems like a very nice man. We've e-mailed for almost two weeks and chatted on the phone twice for at least 45 minutes. We have a lot in common including the ages of our children, common hobbies and an enjoyment of travel. I've been hopeful in the past that each meet would be someone I'd like to see at least long enough to get to know him but have always been disappointed. I am feeling a bit nervous now. It seems that the only person I've thought had potential didn't think I did. I'm not sure which is worse: not being interested or being interested and having it not reciprocated.

Now I have to decide what to wear...

Thanks for listening to my rambling.

Good luck to you! I certainly understand when you say, the only man I thought had potential didn't think I did.....that always happens to me, too. Frustrating.

You go girl!! Wear your favorite pretty outfit. Try not to have any expectations (look who's talking...I should take my own advice!!)

Good luck, have fun!!

Well it is done. We met for lunch at 11:45. The conversation seemed to flow quite easily. He even commented on how similar our views were on most issues. At about 1:15, I suggested that perhaps we should get back to work. We chatted for another 15 minutes or so. When we stepped out of the restaurant, he held out his hand and pulled me in for a very quick hug and said "we'll talk again" (or something very similar and non-committal).

The last meet I went on (the one person I wanted to see again) went equally well and I was sure we would go out again but as I said before, he cancelled our second date never to be heard from again. Even though this lunch meeting seemed to go very well, I don't trust my judgement after the last time. A friend of mine thinks I should wait until tomorrow afternoon and call to thank him for lunch. I'd like to but will probably wait to see if he calls. I am not good at rejection.

I finally have met two men that I would be interested in getting to know and the first one passed and now I'm wondering if this one will too. When did this get so hard?

No, no, no phone calls! Don't listen to your friend ;-). Unless you forgot your manners and didn't thank him at the end of the lunch today, then of course you should call to thank him, but if you said thanks already, it's really overkill to thank him AGAIN!

If he's interested, he'll contact you.

I agree with Sheri. Let him call you. I'm glad it to hear it went well though. Let us know if he contacts you. If his interested, you should hear from him soon.

I double agree! He sounds interested & I'll bet he'll call, but let him call, you don't need to!

I'm glad it went well!

Thank you all very much for the input and advice. I did thank him for lunch and told him I had enjoyed it very much. I will wait and see what happens. I hope he calls but if not, c'est la vie.

Well lunch was on Tuesday and it is Friday and no contact has been made. I am starting to wonder if I am making a bad first impression. It seemed to go so well on the last two meets and they were the only ones that I was interested in and neither of them seems interested. I think it may be time to give up on the process and hope that I accidentally meet someone interesting.
