One of the ways to do research on a guy before you go any further is to check to see if he has any negative court records. You will need his full name, and many times you won't have that information from just e-mailing; however with his phone number (land line, listed) you can perform a "reverse" phone number look-up: http://www.whitepages.com/10001/reverse_phone
Once you have full name you can check court records in your county and state, or his county and state; plus records if he's been in lock up!
It is amazing the information that will be uncovered. I have seen the records for DUIs, felony convictions, domestic abuse, jail/prison time.
If you can't find the websites, call the county/state and they will give you the addresses. And, also you can search to see if he is a registered sex offender.
Remember, you don't know these guys, and they can and will tell you anything. It is up to us to be cautious and ensure we are safe.
One of the guys I checked out ended up being a convicted drug dealer and was on parole. For the heck of it I asked him about it, and his reply was: "Hey, no one is perfect". OMG!
I NEVER give out my phone number, address, place of employment, and especially my last name (plus I use a yahoo e-mail addy, not my primary addy). That would not occur until long after we've e-mailed, talked on the phone, met in person several times, and my friends had met him to give me their input.
You cannot be too careful. No, not all men are jerks, but why take the chance? I value myself too much to take such a risk.

This really works! I thought the guy I was communicating with was on the up and up. But I checked him out after getting his phone # and yikes! This guy has a record a mile long.
Thank you for this great advice!
