Okay this one girl wrote me back on yahoo, I thought I wrote her a fairly decent message it was kinda long for a first message because she had one of those "answer these questions and i'll be impressed" things on her profile... anyway. Okay I got a message back from her and all it said was "Looking forward to hearing from you again soon..." which is one of the pre-made "quick reply"s that yahoo has. What the??! what am I supposed to do with that? she won't even take the time to talk to me in her own words how am I supposed to have any kind of conversation. okay, NOW I'm frustrated.

Did you give her a way to contact you other than Yahoo personals in your message? Sounds to me like she's not a paying member, but was trying to tell you she's interested but can't reply without an email address or IM handle to reply to for free.

Hmm so she can read my emails but can't reply if she's not a member is that how it works?

That's how it is for most sites. You should be able to include or sneak your email address into your emails on Yahoo personals, though.

Someone just posted (can't remember which thread) that Yahoo has now started stripping email addresses out of responses, like Match does...don't know if it's true or not, but in any event, it's probably safer to mask the address.

Yeah, I'd guess she is not a paying member but that she is interested.

I don't know about Yahoo, but on Match if you aren't a paying member you can only send and receive winks. With e-mail you can't even tell who it is from if you are not a paying user. You certainly cannot read or send a canned response.

How about sending her a note that says something like, "I'm guessing that you're not a paying member, so you can find me on my space at *****"

Because even Yahoo is getting very good at removing e-mail addresses even if they say My Yahoo ID is ***

Seems like they're getting trickier...

But I didn't have any problem with my myspace handle, as long as I didn't write "myspace" together..."my space" doesn't seem to pick up any censoring...

I sent her a message like that about 3 days ago except I gave her my yahoo email address.... if yahoo detects your email addy in the message it will give you a warning when you try to send it... so I edited it until it couldn't recognize it anymore. that was 3 days ago and she has been online several times since then and has not written me. I dunno if she lost interest or what I should do.

How did you mask your address? It's possible she just didn't get it. Also keep in mind that when Yahoo says online, they don't mean online in the personals, they just mean online. So it's highly possible that she's signed into messenger but hasn't checked personals, if that makes sense.
