Hi, I just read something on another board that got me thinking, how soon do you respond to an email if you are interested in someone who sends you one?

Clarification on the "on call".

"The Rules for Online Dating" advise a woman to wait 24 hours to respond to an email. I think this is probably a bit much, but, I agree with their overall philosophy of not being so damned available. The idea is to appear interested but not over-eager, and that you've got a life. This may seem like a game, and in a way it is, but I think a little restraint in the beginning is a good thing. You can get to know someone at a slower pace. I don't believe in making a man "work" to get to know me, but for me, it works better if the man has to pursue me a little. I wasn't always this way, much to my regret.

I would not recommend being "on call" for a guy's emails, such as picking them up on your Blackberry, etc. You're busy. You're living your life. Keep in mind too that this man may also be emailing five other women.

I don't know if there should be any hard and fast rule about how long to wait, but I very rarely respond right away...I usually wait at least two hours to reply, even though I could respond right away. But all of this is just a guideline for IN THE BEGINNING.

I've never been one to wait, especially in the day and age of blackberry's! If you get the message and have the time to respond, I say go for it. If you're busy, don't make a special effort to stop what you're doing. It's just a quick hello type response right? Good luck! Dawn
