How would you feel?

If you came across a messageboard and saw your profile on it being criticized? I'm thinking that when we post others' profiles on here to laugh at, it's just not taking into consideration a person's feelings. Even if we believe it to be a fake or scam, who are we to judge?

This isn't to any person in particular, I've just been seeing more of this and it's really bothering me. I know if I ran across a messageboard and saw my profile posted and being laughed at, it would really hurt.

What I'm asking everyone is to consider the feelings of the unknown person before we point and mock them.

Kerry,

I want to say how much I agree about this. Sometimes we think no one will know that we are talking about them, but it's a really small world out there. Many of us am sure have had the experience of finding people we know from one online community active in a completely different and unexpected community. And here we are talking about OLD. It wouldn't be so strange for a man who is doing OLD to come here.

As a guy that recently ventured into OLD, I'll be sure to not be so insensitive even though I am about to post a message critizing certain aspects of profiles that I feel are limiting. Basically I want to give suggestions/pointers as well as possibly receive feedback if I may possibly be off base.

I think that it doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing here.

Vex, I would agree if the criticism was constructive but I've noticed a trend where it's just been mean. And what does that really teach any of us?

I understand that too.

And you notice how this board has lost most of the posters that have tell it like it is personalities. It's a shame because they were entertaining, fun and usually right.

Yes, sometimes that's an unfortunate thing.

Do you think they left because they couldn't post others' profiles and mock them? Actually, a few who left contacted me and told me the reasons behind why they left and it definitely wasn't because they felt stiffled...

Vex, I think we could find a way to keep it fun without making fun of others... ya know what I mean? I think it's important to keep integrity in it all. This would probably be a discussion better served between you and me offline. I'll email ya. :o)

Well, that assumes I would post a profile that was mockworthy in the first place ;-).

And if someone actually were to mock my profile, I'd take any constructive criticism I could glean from it, and leave the rest.
