I'm wondering what a hug at the end of a first meet means. Yesterday, I had dinner with a guy that I met online. He seemed kinda nervous the whole time. Our conversation went pretty good and I told him that it was nice to meet him and he said the same to me. At the end when we left, outside the restaurant, he gave me a hug and said something about chatting online again. I don't know what the hug was about. Whether it was just him being nice or whatever, I don't know. He's working backshift the next few days, so he's not online. I just wish I knew what a hug meant.

I don't think it really "means" anything, in and of itself. I've gotten hugs at the end of a first meet from men who called for a 2nd date, and also from men who never called again.
However, him saying something about "chatting online again" is pretty noncommittal...I've found that *as a general rule*, men who were really interested made it clear that they wanted to see me again at the end of the 1st meet. But I've also heard from guys who were said noncommittal things like that, so who knows!
My best advice is to assume that you *won't* hear from him, and just go on with your life. If he contacts you, great; if not, oh well, next!

I think it's just an extension of "Nice to have met you." I always got a hug, or a kiss on the cheek after a first meeting, except for the one's I
