Hello,

What would you do if you met a man who seems like he's great. The only problem is he is located in NEW ZEALAND!

I met this guy online two months ago and he is really sweet, funny, and has multiple possibilites. The only thing is that he is located on the other side of the world. He says that it isn't a problem but somehow I'm not seeing how this thing is suppose to work. Should I just cut dude lose now or see where this goes?

Also if anyone has any tips on online dating let me know.

Welcome to the board!

Tip #1 -- don't.

Tip #2 -- there are hundreds and hundreds of great tips on this board. Check out the website (in jhHoover's posts) and the archives.

Tip #1 again -- don't do it. If you can't see 'em, you aren't dating. You are simply being pen pals. The ONLY way to be in a relationship with someone is if you see each other in person on a regular basis.

You haven't "met" a guy who is great. You've struck up an online friendship, which is worth nearly nothing when it comes to building a true, real relationship with someone.

When you've seen him in person and spent a few hundred hours in his company, THEN you can say you've really met him. Until then, you haven't really "met" him; you've just met the idea of him you have in your head.

OLD tips? Don't be afraid to do it, but don't think that you're going to find something online that you need to make you happy. If you're happy, you're happy, whether you're living in a shotgun shack or in Bel Air.

You know you guys are right. Normally I am not so obtuse, but this is the first time I have been in a situation like this, so its kinda brand new to me. I will definetly tell dude that things are definetly on the platonic level. Thank you!

Funny thing LG, I feel the same about someone only an hour away! LOL

But to the OP...LDR's (Long Distance Relationships) are VERY hard and of the few I knew about, didn't work out at all. There are so many road bumps to overcome when you're dating and having a great distance between the two of you makes them so much harder to navigate.

There is (or was) a LDR board here at iVillage. You should check out some of the posts there.

And ditto what amjay said.
