Introverted Person trying to date
Wed, 08-24-2011 - 2:00pm

Hello everyone.Well I'm going to just say that I have always been a shy and introverted person so what do I do to try to get over this because I am so wanting to be in a relationship BUT I find it very hard to not be so nervous and scared.I'v e only been in 2 relationships my whole life.I don't have that much experience when it comes to dating. This week I have decided to take it upon myself and start ..or I should say at least start trying to get out there.I know that I need to get out BUT it has been very hard since I had been unemployed for over 2 yrs so money has been very scarce. Now I will be finally starting a new job, getting a better outlook on things and I really would like the chance to date now BUT I don't know how with me being so introverted PLUS not having a friend that is single so we can go out and socialize. What can I do?

There is a difference between being too introverted and being too shy.

Mark, thank you for pointing out the difference between shy and introverted. Many people don't understand this. And did you know that 75% of the US population are extroverts?

Anyway, not to get off-topic too much here. To the OP: I totally agree with Mark. I will add that as introvert myself, I have had to learn to "fake it" in social situations. By this I mean I have had to learn to be more comfortable and outgoing in unfamiliar social situations. I mostly learned this through the business world, where one has to be more of an extrovert. I will never become an extrovert (and nor should anyone try) but it can be useful to tear a page out of the "extrovert book."

I totally understand!

I think it would be great to try online dating...that way you don't have to force things and can take it at your own pace.
