Hey, ladies! I have posted occasionally on ivillage for advice on various things, and now ya'lls expertise is what I need! Thanks in advance:) I'll try to keep it short and understandable!

Ironically now that I think back on it--I have been married twice and had another serious relationship when I was in my 20's that I thought was going to lead to marriage (we dated for about 1.5 yrs) and w/ all of them, we did have sex pretty fast--so it doesn't necessarily mean that if you sleep w/ someone, they will think you're a cheap woman & move on. It's a gamble. And funny, all the guys from OLD that I only went on 1 or 2 dates with--I never slept w/ any of them. Maybe I just have really good radar for when there is a connection, or maybe I just got lucky. I think if you do have doubts, it's probably better to wait because then if he does stick around, you'll know it's because he likes you.

He sounds fun. & if you've been out twice & youre out of town that long, I see no problem with your type of contact while you have been away.


I love that he is trying to learn how to make your fav dish! & how to know if he is saying the right things & not to just get into your pants? Wait to have sex. Thats really teh ONLY true way. Whatever youre "rule" is ... mine tends to be lax, lol. But Id say overall if you've been on 5 or 6 dates over a months period or so, its pretty safe he is interested in more than just sex, But thats just my opinion.

Thanks for taking the time to respond ladies! I do think we are taking the time to get to know each other- it just happens to be over the phone, because that's what we can do right now. Ya'll hit the nail on the head with the risque talk- even though it wasn't super dirty, I need to put the breaks on that until we see each other in person.

Every guy's motive is to get into your pants! The question is, does he also want a long term relationship? The only way to find out is if he has the patience to date you until you are ready for intimacy. It's hard to wait when you have so much chemistry and attraction, but it's usually wiser to wait. Guys will try, but if you give in too soon, they wonder if you do it with all men in so short of a time, and then they decide you're not long term material, and move on to the next woman.

You're the only one who can accurately judge whether the pace of this new connection is comfortable and appropriate for you.


For me, it would be way too fast. I'm far too busy to be texting and talking to someone new daily right off the bat.


It would feel like rushing and I prefer getting to know someone at a more measured pace over a period of time.


Ask yourself this....are you comfortable having someone you just met twice cook you dinner in a setting where you will both be alone? That leaves the door wide open for it to go in a direction you may not be ready. And then what's left to discover about each other?


I think when you rush through the discovery stage too quickly, the mystery and intrigue fizzles out too soon. But that's just me.
