OK I just joined match and was kind of surprised that guys will IM right away as the first contact--no wink, no email, etc.

So, you've taken the plunge!

No, I don't like it when a man asks for my phone number right away, and I just don't IM. You are most likely correct that these men are IMing with several women at once. I think many men just contact/correspond with as many women as possible--some for entertainment, but the response rate is low for men, something like only 1 in 20 women will reply. So, they try to up their chances, I can't fault them for that, but it doesn't make me feel very special. And I've had lots of men send me their phone number in the very first email--I never call.

You can block the IM operation. I did, as I hate IM'ing. My boyfriend of 1 year and 4 months met on Yahoo. I had two and a half years of frustrating and ridiculous dating experiencing online before I met him. It was worth it after all. Good luck to you!

I did add in my profile that I was not interested in any LDR because I want to be able to do things w/ the guy.

It took awhile but once I got accustomed to im'ing, I actually prefer it over talking on the phone.

I certainly don't reveal my salary, and honestly, I'm surprised anyone posts their salary on Match. I do like to know what someone does for a living: not because I'm trying to gauge how much they make, but rather, what sort of person they are. I think men who post high salaries are trying hard to impress...and they are always looking for much younger women. Oh sure, a 55 year old man will say he's looking for women 35 - 55, but he really wants the 35 year old. :smileywink:

I wouldn't mind IMing w/ someone I had already exchanged a few emails with--it's just weird when it comes out of the blue and there's this guy that you don't have any idea who it is, so you rush to look up his profile.

So the guy who posted his salary did actually send me an email--he said he just joined the site & has no experience w/ OLD--ok maybe that's not true, who knows?

This reminds me of when I first got a computer and signed up for AOL which had some chat rooms then.
