What do you mean, is it really free? Like almost all of the other online dating services, it's free to post a profile and free to wink at others (Yahoo calls them icebreakers) but that's about it.

One nice thing about Yahoo though is that if people are subscribers they can put their personal email addresses in an email to you and Yahoo doesn't strip them out like Match does.

Hey Sheri... thanks! How do you know if a person is a member or not? Is there a way to tell?

I have an observation about Yahoo to share.

Apparently that is how I've gotten a lot of instant msgs. from men who don't seem to have profiles on the site. So far, I've never really talked with one that didn't have a profile because the messages were always sent when I wasn't online. I didn't usually respond if they didn't have a profile, so I never heard back from most of them. I let my subscription lapse to both Yahoopersonals and Match. Somehow almost $45 each month for a lot of dead-end deals didn't make much sense to me. I may try it again later, but right now, I'm burned to a crisp with OLD.

So far (in my area at least) the guys that are on Yahoo are also on Match.com.

I personally am having a ghosting problem. Seems when I actually send them an email I don't hear from them anymore regardless of who contacted who first.

Hi...

Yes, really free.....but the way I read it,...it means you have to be a member at least one month after the free week. It seems like a little hidden catch. You seem to be able to cancel pretty easily after the initial month after the free 7 days. I stayed a member.

Stacey, you are right! They can IM you through Yahoo using your Yahoo personals name! Never thought about that, but I am pretty sure guys are IM'ing me from there.
