Just Stopping in to Say Hi!

Hi Everyone!

My name is Nikki and I used to be a regular on this board. I did a lot of OLD and really enjoyed my OLD experiences for the most part, mishaps an all. I had every weird thing in the book happen, I think, but it's given me a lot of great stories and helped me see the humor in life.

I met my now husband online in June of 2006 on OK Cupid. When I met him I had been on an OLD spree and I was a paying member on eHarmony, did a trial on yahoo, and also did a trial and had a few dates from Match. Ironically, I met Rob on the site I wasn't paying a dime for!

I noticed someone's discussion topic is "respond to winks?" and when I was really doing a lot of OLD, I generally didn't respond to those. But, when Rob sent me one, I looked at his profile. It was obvious he was a geek and I guessed that he was not an experienced dater (I think nerdy/geeky guys are cute and make great partners, btw). So, I decided to send him a message after his wink (or woo, as the case was). Luckily I did... 3 1/2 years later, here we are, married and really happy. We've been married for 9 months now.

Anyway, I didn't come here to brag about how great my life is or anything... I just wanted to spread some hope to everyone out there. Dating can definitely be rough. My younger sister is doing OLD now and so it's something I still think and talk about all the time. I hope everyone meets someone great very soon! There are great people out there. I hope everyone has a great holiday and if anyone from back when I was a frequent poster remembers me, say hi! I'd love to hear updates on everyone.

I just started checking this board a few weeks ago.

I agree with Nikki that geeky nerds or nerdy geeks can be great guys. I met mine at a POF event three years ago this spring and after about 8 months of friendship, we decided to date. We have a lot in common and are happy together. We just got back from a vacation and were discussing how we could spend our winters on a beach when we retire (8 years for me).

Life is good.

Great story and thanks for sharing, some of us new "Olds" need the reassurance because it can be a heart breaker. Will try ok cupid, why not, how much worse can it get. Thanks again.

what a great story and thanks for sharing!! I for one am hoping for a happy ending with someone I met on POF. It's only been two months and he's currently deployed to Iraq, but crazy enough

Be with someone who knows what they have when they have you!

Well congratulations and thanks for sharing. I think we do need to hear these stories to keep all of the 'misses' of OLD in perspective!

Here's another OLD success story:

Met my BF, Jeremy, on Yahoo Personals in October 08. We just bought a house & moved in together this month. We're talking marriage now. It CAN work!
